Is YouTube on the skids?
p2pnet.net News:- Warner Music recently joined the YouTube club which already has EMI and NBC as members, but which is watching Vivendi Universal line the video site up for a court appearance on copyright infringement charges.
Mark Cuban believes only a moron would want to buy YouTube and, “Cuban isn’t the only one who sees trouble coming for the service,” says Bill Thompson.
“Doug Morris, CEO of Universal Music Group, has said that YouTube and social networking site MySpace, ‘owe us millions of dollars’, and it seems likely that he has plans to collect. Other content providers are no doubt thinking the same way.”
Now, Forrester Research says it, too, believes it’s only a matter of time before the video site, “is faced with a potentially crippling copyright-violation suit from the entertainment industry,” says TechWeb.
Forrester pundit Josh Bernoff drew parallels between YouTube and Napster, says the story. And look what happened, and is still happening, to Napster?
“Besides putting its long-term survival in question, YouTube’s failure to clean up copyright violations is making it difficult to attract advertisers, since most would be skittish about tying their brands to illegal videos, experts believe,” says TechWeb, adding:
“YouTube’s best chance for long-term survival is to take the initiative on its own to remove all material that violates copyrights, and to help users make the transition toward posting legal copy, Bernoff said. While the site would lose users, it would lose a lot more if it was forced to shutdown, and then relaunch itself like Napster in 2001.”
Napster did not, of course, re-launch itself. That was left to BMG, initially, and then to Napster nee Roxio, which is still struggling desperately, its new Japan venture notwithstanding.

Eventually there will need to be some court rulings to break up big chunks of the corps or force reasonable ways for third parties to legally distribute materials (so much material) posted by the public..
This whole affair is nothing more than imposition of utter media house monopoly by cementing up of all the escape routes and holding a torch to the foundations.
Or so my mummy told me..
