HP’s Dunn faces felony charges
p2pnet.net News:- California’s attorney general Bill Lockyer says ex-HP chairwoman Patricia Dunn and chief ethics officer Kevin Hunsaker, together with investigators Ronald DeLia, Matthew DePante and Bryan Wagner, violated state privacy laws when the company tried to discover who, among senior employees, had leaked information,
"The five each face four felony counts in the charges filed Wednesday: use of false or fraudulent pretenses to obtain confidential information from a public utility; unauthorized access to computer data; identity theft; and conspiracy to commit each of those crimes," says the Associated Press.
"Each charge carries a fine of up to $10,000 and three years in prison."
It’s interesting to see Lockyer’s office explode in righteous wrath when it’s likely that California which is, after all, home to Hollywood, is among the top states for ‘pretexting,’ as making phony phone calls to garner information, is called.
But neither HP ceo Mark Hurd, who’s now at the helm, nor former HP general counsel Ann Baskins, "who had some oversight of the company’s investigation of media leaks," are named, says the story, going on:
"At a news conference, Lockyer said his investigation of the company, long revered for its ethics and professionalism, was not yet complete and hinted more charges could be ahead."
Dunn, "has vowed to fight criminal charges relating to a corporate spying scandal, describing them as ‘false’," says the BBC.
Her lawyer, Jim Brosnahan, said she’ll contest the allegations with "everything she has" and that they’re, "the culmination of a well-financed and highly orchestrated disinformation campaign".
It’s alleged that Dunn launched an investigation ultimately uncovered George Keyworth, whio resigned. – who was finally named as the source of the leak – resigned But Dunn has, "repeatedly denied knowing about what tactics the investigators would use to uncover the source of the leak, telling a Congressional hearing that she did not endorse any wrongdoing," says the story.
