China Net cafes closed
p2pnet.net News:- The remote Fangshan County in North China’s Shanxi Province used to boast seven thriving Net cafes.
But ‘used to’ is the operative phrase because, “in the wake of failure by cyber centres to prevent underage students from coming in and surfing the net” all seven have been shut down, says ANI News.
According to Beijing daily, ‘Democracy and Law Times’, “a large number of youngsters regularly visited the cafes to play illegal games and watch pornography, abandoning their studies,” says the story.
Now, “Students who used to indulge in the Internet for hours a day have now returned to school, and are making progress in their studies,” it has teacher saying.
Under Chinese law, students must be 18 to go online in an Internet cafe, adds ANI.
