PIs charged in HP scandal

p2pnet.net News:- Ronald DeLia of Massachusetts-based Security Outsourcing Solutions Inc, Matthew DePante of Florida-based Action Research Group Inc, and Bryan Wagner of Colorado, named in the HP ‘pretexting’ scandal, have pleaded not guilty in California to identity theft and other felony charges.

Ex-HP chairwoman Patricia Dunn and the company’s chief ethics officer, Kevin Hunsaker, face similar charges and state attorney general Bill Lockyer has said the investigation is ongoing and could lead to more accusations, according to the Associated Press.

DeLia, a “longtime HP contractor on security investigations” was allegedly the middleman between HP and the other two investigators and who, says an affidavit, worked with Dunn on the investigation in 2005.

“HP then contracted with him again this year after a story appeared on CNET’s News.com in January with an anonymous source dishing about a private board retreat,” says AP, adding:

“DeLia contracted with Action Research Group, where DePante is a manager, to obtain the private phone logs, who in turn hired Wagner as a subcontractor, according to the criminal complaint.”

DePante’s father and business partner, Joseph DePante, says he, his son and their Melbourne company are being wrongly targeted, says Florida Today.

“DePante said his son, Matthew DePante, 27, should be cleared of all charges because he was acting as a contractor of private investigator Ron DeLia of Massachusetts, and not on his own,” says the story, also quoting DePante senior as saying:

“We had no idea Hewlett-Packard was involved in any of this. We were strictly working for DeLia. We are licensed private investigators, but we also provide information and skip-trace work to other companies and entities. We work with a lot of different sources, and those sources work with different investigators.”
