Firefox bites into IE
p2pnet.net News:- Firefox and Safari continue to bite heavily into Microsoft’s Internet Explorer, which has reached its lowest point in more than two years at 82.10%.
So say new statistics quoted by Ars Techica.
"Firefox, on the other hand, has been growing steadily, reaching 12.46 percent market share," it says. "Safari holds its third place spot, but sees increasing numbers as well at 3.53 percent."
But, warns the story, "Internet Explorer 7 will see a complete overhaul of the browser with a number of significant improvements in security, interface, and major bug fixes such as improved CSS compliance (the sound of a thousand web developers rejoicing can be heard in the distance)."
However, adds Ars Technica, Firefox 2.0 is slated for release later this month, and it, "comes with its own slew of improvements to search engine management, interface improvements such as an integrated spell checker, and its own version of malware and phishing protections. Firefox 2.0 will not be as significant of an update as IE 7, but is still highly anticipated nonetheless by Firefox fans."

It doesn’t change the facts:

The article you’ve linked to is flawed. It is biased to be anti-firefox, disregarding other browsers’ failings, and much of it appears to be a giant plug for Opera. Some of the information presented answers points against Firefox by saying, in a nutshell, “Opera is better” instead of actually pointing out why Firefox is a problem.
All the propaganda in the world won’t change “THE FACTS” as I have personally experienced them in my computer consultation business:
* My clients who switch to Firefox experience almost *zero* infections with all the nasty stuff out there, whatever name you give it (spyware, malware, viruses, Trojans…)
* Internet Explorer 6 SP2 is not available outside of Windows XP. That means all the Windows 2000 users out there can’t get popup blocking and ActiveX control warnings as presented in SP2, nor can they get IE7 at all.
* No IE for Linux, and from what I understand, no longer for Mac OS X either. Let’s not even talk about Solaris, HP-UX, IRIX, etc.
* The download manager is wonderful to have.
* No ActiveX “do you want to install and run” garbage.
* I never really liked Opera anyway.

It doesn’t change the fact that it’s crap (FUD to be precise).
