p2pnet.net News:- BT – British Telecom – says it’s going to use an automatic hunt and kill anti-spam application called Content Forensics to filter and eliminate virus infected email traffic and, “quarantine and control infected botnet subscribers”.
From StreamShield Networks, the application will allow BT’s abuse team to, “cancel rogue accounts linked to spammers or add offending IP addresses to blacklists,” says The Register.
“The system also allows BT’s admins to contact consumers whose compromised (zombie) PCs have unwittingly been made the part of the junk mail problem and provide advice on cleaning up their systems.”
On its web page, StreamShield promises its Content Forensics/Monitor monitors SMTP email traffic on the network , lists the top N spammers in real-time, reports each subscriber’s email activity by time of day and reveals how much bandwidth is wasted by unwanted or harmful traffic.
Content Forensics/Record is an “optional facility” to record header information for all SMTP emails on the network. It, “Can be used for long-term trend analysis, evidence collection for abusive users and regulatory purposes,” says the company.
In associated news, ICAAN said ‘I can’t’ after alleged spam outfit e360 demanded a court order to have Spamhaus’ .org domain name delisted.
“ICANN cannot comply with any order requiring it to suspend or place a client hold on Spamhaus.org or any specific domain name because ICANN does not have either the ability or the authority to do so,” it stated.
“Only the Internet registrar with whom the registrant has a contractual relationship – and in certain instances the Internet registry – can suspend an individual domain name.”
