p2pnet.net News:- Sony Electronics’ latest Walkman music players have something the company hopes will take a bite out of Apple’s iPod sales.

Noise control.

Noise cancelling technology in the player and headphones can cut ambient sound by up to 75%, Sony promises, states the EE Times. The Walkmans are, moreover, available in multiple colors “including violet and pink”.

According to Sony, the new NW-S700F series of Walkman players offer up to 50 hours of battery life and has a ‘quick-charge’ feature providing up to three-hours of playback after a three-minute charge, says EE Times. The players support ATRAC, ATRAC Advance Lossless, MP3, AAC (non-DRM), WMA (non-DRM) and Linear PCM music files, adds the story.

And, “We are developing a product that handles images, but I cannot make any comment on specific,” Reuters has Sony’s Hiroshi Yoshioka saying.

Not only but also, “Sony also said it will start rolling out five new models of a flash-memory-based Walkman, shaped like a perfume bottle” which’ll be on sale towards the end of the year.

A 4-gigabyte model with a noise-reduction function is expected to sell for around 29,000 yen ($240) in Japan, says Reuters.

The new Walkmans will allow users to download music directly from “special stereos” without using a PC, says The Financial Times, pointing out the line-up, “comes a year after Sony’s previous effort at unseating the iPod was overshadowed by Apple’s launch on the same day of its iPod Nano. It also comes ahead of the launch next month by Microsoft of its Zune music player.”.
