(RED) iPods for Aids

p2pnet.net News:- Good or bad?

Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria have become focal points for various companies who key them to product marketing campaigns, with Apple promoter and U2 lead singer Bono fronting them under the (RED) banner.

American Express, GAP, Motorola, MTV Networks, Giorgio Armani and Converse are already pumping special (RED) products, with 10% of sales going to The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

And today Oprah and Bono are boosting a special-edition red 4GB iPod nano, to sell worldwide for $200, $10 of which will go to RED.

"Like two best friends on a shopping date, Oprah and Bono hit North Michigan Avenue Thursday morning, turning heads and stunning fans as they zipped in and out of stores," says The Chicago Sun-Times. ‘So, wow, this is the Magnificent Mile,’ the U2 frontman marveled to Winfrey as they walked together in a freakish October snow, each clutching packed shopping bags. ‘Here we come, walking down the street, get the funniest looks from . . .’ Bono sang, doing a Monkees impersonation.

"The high-wattage shopping spree was taped to air on Winfrey’s talk show today. Winfrey is lending her support to the Product Red campaign led by Bono and Kennedy clan member Bobby Shriver."

Good or bad?

Meanwhile, "Bono already had an existing relationship with Apple," says CNET News.

"The company has released two versions of the U2 Special Edition iPod, an iPod loaded with content recorded by Bono’s band, U2. Bono has also appeared in several commercials for the iPod and iTunes."

ohhhhh ahhhhhhh $10…The companies selling (red) still aren’t loosing out…they know what they do..and for customers buying these (red)electronics are they really doing so to help people in poverty or just to look like their helping the cause in front of their peers with their flashy red ipod. If you have a spare $200 lying around why dont you just donate the whole amount to various charities, people shouldn’t have to be rewarded with a red ipod..the reward is helping in the first place. But then again dont be suprised to see celebrities sporting red motorolas and red ipods in your latest gossip magazines and film premiers. Next week they’ll buy the whole colour range of new ipod nano’s, one for every day of the week.

Good or bad? How about nauseating?

Why is it that all “humanitarian” aid is:

    Attached to publicity stunts.
The aid is always given far away, where no one can check the resulyt?

    Hmmm, makes me wonder!
