Does fat mean dumb?

p2pnet.net OT News:- If you belong to the rapidly shrinking school which still believes IQ tests have value, you’ll be interested to know that according to French medical scientists, there’s a link between obesity and a decline in IQ.

Their five-year study included 2,223 healthy people between 32 and 62 over and, “fatter subjects also showed a higher rate of cognitive decline when they were retested five years later: their recall dropped to 37.5 per cent, whereas those with a healthy weight retained their level of recall,” it concluded, says The Telegraph.

The research team, led by Dr Maxime Cournot, assistant professor of Clinical Epidemiology at Toulouse University Hospital, said the phenomenon, “linked to the hormonal secretions instigated by fat cells in the human body,” says EarthTimes.

“She further added that fat prompts hardening of arteries which may be happening in the brain also leading to reduction in the cognitive ability in fatter people. This phenomenon has been named as Homer Simpson effect after the popular animated character of a lovable regular American.”

But, The Telegraph has former Tory minister Widdecombe saying, the research seemed unsustainable.

“You just need to look around the world and you will see hundreds of thin nitwits and clever fat people,” she’s quoted as saying.

“When I lost weight it was my waistline that improved, not my cerebellum.”
