Reuters targets the Net
p2pnet.net News:- The traditional world press corps isn’t dead yet, but it’s dying.
Its once total dominance of information and news channels is slowly but steadily being usurped by bloggers who talk directly to people around the world, providing them with fresh and accurate material, unspun by the lamescream media’s corporate masters, most of whom are owned and/or controlled by the entertainment cartels.
But this doesn’t mean traditional suppliers such as the major wire services and newspapers are giving up. To the contrary, they’re trying everything they can think of to tap the blogs to turn them into both free news sources, and profit centres. And one of the most creative attempts so far comes from Reuters, which has just opened an unreal online news service —— in the unreal world of Second Life where members trade in cyber cash called Linden dollars.
Linden Dollar vs US Dollar
274.4 L$/USD as of 7:30am PDT, says Reuters SL.
“Starting on Wednesday, Reuters plans to begin publishing text, photo and video news from the outside world for Second Life members and news of Second Life for real world readers who visit a Reuters news site” says, you guessed it, Reuters.
The wire service will have journalists reporting and writing financial and cultural stories, “within and about Second Life as part of the London-based company’s strategy to reach new audiences with the latest digital technologies,” says Reuters #1.
“In Second Life, we’re making Reuters part of a new generation,” Reuters boss Tom Glocer states. “We’re playing an active role in this community by bringing the outside world into Second Life and vice versa.”
Er, Yes. Maybe.
Running things will be Adam (Yup – you guessed it again) Reuters, aka Adam Pasick, “a veteran tech and media journalist”.
“Got SL story ideas?” – asks Reuters’ Reuters? If you do, you know what to do.
Will people who send stories and/or ideas and/or pix to the virtual Reuters be paid in either Linden or real dollars for their trouble? Neither Reuters says.
Nor do they say who’ll get the copyright to said stories.
While you wait for other print and electronic media outlets to copy Reuters at SL and elsewhere, stay tuned.
