Britain’s ‘1 day in your life’ blog
p2pnet.net News:- Yesterday was National Blog Day in Britain.
So was there anything particularly significant about the date, October 17?
Well, says Wikipedia, it’s the 290th day of the year (291st in leap years) in the Gregorian calendar, it’s the date upon which, in 1346, King David II of Scotland was captured by Edward III of England at Calais, and more recently, yesterday was also the day the US population reached 300 million.
In other words, October 17 is nothing special. Which was precisely the point,
"Make history with us on 17 October by taking part in the biggest blog in history, said the National Trust. "One Day in History’ is a one off opportunity for you to join in a mass blog for the national record. We want as many people as possible to record a ‘blog’ diary which will be stored by the British Library as a historical record of our national life."
And the whole idea was to record perfectly non-extraordinary days to give readers of the future a perspective of the way things really were.
"Today was a normal day at university really," posted Emily MacFarlane. "Woke up. Had some shreddies and then walked the 5 minutes to the uni."
"Today I realised that I had nothing to offer society, that I was washed up and may as well be dead," said Alex Redman.
"My alarm went off at 6am as usual, and I stumbled out of bed, then had a shower," says Sarah Goddar.
"My alarm on my mobile went off at 6.50am - with the ‘ogum bogum’ song," wrote Harriet Margolies.
Or, as The Beatles say in A Day in the Life, "Woke up, got out of bed, dragged a comb across my head …….."
Go here to find out what’ll happen to all those blogs and, of course, who’ll own the copyrights to your now-immortal words.
