Bully banned by UK stores
p2pnet.net News:- Bully, Take-Two Interactive’s latest video game, set in a reform school, is going on sale in the US, protests from anti-violence advocates notwthstanding.
But in Britain, where it’s known as Canis Canem Edit, it won’t be sold by Currys or PC World, says the BBC.
Take-Two came out with the Grand Theft Auto series for Sony’s PS 2 and the San Andreas version with hidden pseudo-sex scenes came under heavy attack.
Bully was also attacked by, “riled educators, lawmakers and anti-violence advocates long before its release on Tuesday,” but this time, “a spate of deadly shootings in U.S. schools stoked outcries from opponents of violent video games,” says Reuters, going on.
“But the publisher has insisted that the game, which lacks the pistols, shotguns, assault rifles and rocket launchers found in its ‘Grand Theft Auto’ titles, actually has a positive message with incentives for attending classes and punishments for breaking curfews.”
And Canis Canem Edit?

The headline is pretty misleading. Bully has not been banned. One chain (Dixons Group) has decided not to stock the game in it’s Currys stores as it “doesn’t fit in with thier image as a family store”.
Unsurprisingly (as there’s money to be made) PC World (also owned by DSG) will be stocking the game.
This will do nothing but give Bully a lot of free advertising.

I think its a shame that a game like this is made…its only going to put an increase to bullying…and kids pleading innocence or ignorance, saying ”the video game made me do it”. Its also a shame that the games industry is lackin on innovative games..it seems like the technology is getting better but storylines aren’t.
Also agree that the more negative publicity the game gets, the more people will be inclined to buy it. We all know this is what the bully producers want. They gonna make a hella money!!

You don’t know what you’re talking about, like most people who comment and haven’t actually seen the thing they are up in arms about. The game isn’t about *being* a bully, the game is about *avoiding* a bully. You have to navigate your way around school life without any violence, or you lose the game.

ahah that sounds lame…’navigate your way around school life without any violence’..i would hav thought thats what most people do. But like the person that posted previously they’re only going on what they hear in the news. It doesn’t seem that the makers of bully are doing anything to go against this perception. Although that florida high court judge who played the game saw nothing against it. But all the advertising and screen shots ive come across depict some kid getting beat on? ‘Bad Press Is Good Press!!’

I got the game… i’m 13… i diddnt go attacking bums, beating up kids, chucking my new dodgeball (That says bully on it) at all the jocks. I diddnt go around the school swearing (Actually, i don’t swear). Violent video games do nothing to anything! …Except give me a whole 12 hours of entertainment today (I’m still playing).
Even if you people get it banned now, nobody cares… we all have it. Banning GTA did nothing either, Well all had it the first day.
…same with manunt (Etc)
Please, Please people, Stop this stuff! If your gonna go banning stuff for violence, go ban school, Highways, all video games (Pretty much), Why dont you go ban family guy? heck, while you at it why not ban old cartoons for smoking!?
…wait. This banning stuff is stupid, “YOUR NOT SOLVING ANYTHING!!!”
