New, long, Sony PS3 delay
p2pnet.net News:- Sony, already hard hit by the continuing dangerous battery and rootkit spyware scandals, has more bad news.
The company, a member of both the movie and music cartels, “may not reach this year’s shipment target for the PlayStation 3 game console because of a parts shortage in the Blu-ray high-definition disc drive,” it says, according to Bit-Tech-Net.
This directly contradicts its claims that although commercial production of blue laser, “a key component for PS3’s Blu-ray optical disc drive,” was behind schedule, “forcing the delay in Europe and other regions including Australasia,” Sony nonetheless, “stood by its plans for Japan and North American launches in November.”
“Now, in climbdown number three, a Sony exec is saying that the numbers bandied around as fact are, in fact, mere ‘targets’,” says Bit-Tech-Net
Earlier, the company had warned European retailers about jumping the gun
“Sony is laying down the law in regards to importing its consoles – doing so without their permission is against the law,” said Britain’s Pro-G.
“The news follows Sony’s court victory over online retailer Lik-Sang in a case concerning the grey importing of the PSP. Judge Michael Fysh found that Lik-Sang was in breach of intellectual property rights when it sold Japanese PSPs to European consumers.”
But that was then, and this is now and it’s all good for Microsoft and Nintendo whose game boxes will be on the shelves next month —- just in time for Christmas.
