Firefox 2 bugs denied
p2pnet.net News:- It’s a given that online popularity brings with it e-vermin of various kinds and Firefox is finding it’s not immune.
"A day after shipping Firefox 2.0, Mozilla on Wednesday largely rebutted two claims of security flaws in the latest version of the Web browser," says ZDNet.
"Bug hunters appear to be in a race to uncover new security flaws in both Firefox 2.0 and Internet Explorer 7, which Microsoft released last week."
The Microsoft IE7 hole appeared to be largely unjustified and although there have been at least two Firefox bug reports, "I would call it just noise," Window Snyder, Mozilla’s security chief, is quoted as saying. The two issues don’t present any real risk to Firefox users, she said.
"The vulnerabilities that were identified were actually fixed," she said,
But, ZDNet goes on, "Another report on the Full Disclosure mailing list suggested that there is a flaw in Firefox 2.0 that could be exploited to aid in cyberscams. The report included some computer code, but, "We don’t have enough information to identify it," the story had Snynder saing. "If we get more information, then we will investigate."
Meanwhile, Firefox’s automatic update feature doesn’t presently give users the option of declining an update andm "because some users may not want to move to version 2.0, Firefox will first ship a 1.5.0.8 upgrade to the browser that will give them the ability to decline the major upgrade," says CIO.com.
"After that it will push out the 2.0 version via automatic update."
