Most YouTube users aren't well-versed in corporate affairs, aren't aware of the incestuous web of holdings, executives and the like. It makes trying to come to terms with things like this hard enough for people with some knowledge - most people just get annoyed.

For people not living there, it was an excellent way to watch those shows or even clips of the shows. Jon Stewart even mentioned YouTube lots of times and told the viewers to watch clips through YouTube.

Bad move Comedy Central

Remember that Comedy Central is owned by Viacom and its majority stockholder is Sumner Redstone who also owns CBS and National Amusements the company that owns the Mutiplex Cinema chain so don't be so surprised .Sumner was also the Chairman of the Board of the National Association of Theatre Owners and is still a Board member.

Depressing. Who would have guessed in 1994 that our bright new internet future would be ruined by corporate cobblers?
If the likes of Comedy Central had even an ounce of nouse they'd realise that all these clips on YouTube would be the best sort of publicity for their shows.

Gah! I'm confused, annoyed, depressed and downright angry at the complete lack of ... oh never mind, no use getting wound up, they always win :(

I can understand taking down whole episodes for shows, but taking down any and all clips is going to get noticed. It isn't any litigation that will destroy youtube, it's google themselves that will force everyone off. Wasting their own 1.65 billion.
