I don’t own an ipod, but the statement that it only plays DRM songs is inaccurate. It seems simple to me, if you buy songs from itunes, you have to deal with drm, if you load it up with mp3’s that you have ripped from cd or dl’d from p2p, then you avoid apple’s DRM.

via advertising to ‘realize’ that image is MORE important than
functionality or quality.

Jesus H Christ, when will you people Check your facts!

The ipod will play music from virtually any source except WMA files. The most common source on iPods is music from Compact Discs. You can play AAC, MP3, Aiff…etc

To Say: “Of course, you’ll only bel able to play songs pre-approved by Apple’s Digital Restrictions Management (DRM) consumer control system”
is absolutlely false!

The iPod was the number #1 selling MP3 player in Canada years before the iTunes music store was even available. What were we listening to..dead air?

Of course you can play any old MP3’s and AAC’s. And of course you can just drag them onto the iTunes window, and of course you don’t have to store them inside iTunes. You must think 60 million iPod customers are all idiots!

Show the average consumer a non-Apple player that uses simple drag-n-drop in Windows Explorer and they realise just how restrictive iTunes is.

As you say though it’ll be a huge hit amongst people who can’t afford the overpriced iPods, although in an ideal world these people would shop around and find a perfectly good non-Apple player for half the price.
