Napster goes indie
p2pnet.net News:- Whatever else you say about the disinterred Napster, you have to admit it doesn’t give up, spending investors’ money in one scheme after another to gain a viable position in the virtually non-existent corporate online music business.
Although reportedly up for sale, Napster is now trying it on with indie music, saying it’ll pump out, “the best up-and-coming bands and a few surprises from some big stars,” and going on that daily mp3s, “will prove to be a great way to create awareness for artists and value for marketers, who can work with Napster to associate their brands with this great music”.
In order to be able to do all of this, it’ll be hyping Intel Viiv.
“Intel’s integrated sponsorship package also includes advertising placements across Napster’s inventory, including logo integration on the Napster.com homepage and in Napster’s free, Web-based music player and banners throughout the Napster Web site,” it says. “A sweepstakes will also launch on December 1, 2006 with prizes supplied by both Intel and Napster.”
Yawn.
