Missing Starbucks employee data
p2pnet.net News:- Starbucks admits it’s lost laptops storing names, addresses and Social Security numbers of current and former employees.
Fewer than 80 Canadians are potentially affected, but the missing data, about three years old and stored on two of four missing computers, hold details of some 60,000 US Starbucks workers, says the Associated Press.
“We have no reason to believe these laptops are in the hands of someone who wants to misuse them,” Starbucks spokeswoman Valerie O’Neil is quoted as saying. “We just want to make every effort to protect our partners.”
Starbucks was notifying those affected, including an estimated 8 percent of its current work force, which numbers about 135,000 worldwide, says AP, adding:
“The company is offering free credit protection services to anyone with personal data believed to be on the missing computers, O’Neil said.”
The laptops went missing from a closet at Starbucks’ south Seattle HQ.
