Vista goes to Big Business
p2pnet.net News:- It’s taken half a decade, but Microsoft has finally finished Windows Vista, although it won’t be generally available until the end of January next year.
“Windows Vista’s code was released Wednesday to manufacturing – a step that allows the company to begin making the copies that will be distributed with personal computers and sold at stores,” the Associated Press has Jim Allchin, co-president of the Microsoft division that includes Windows, saying.
Microsoft had previously promised to let big-business clients have Vista on November 30, says the story, going on:
“The software has been plagued by delays, the most recent of which was blamed in part on efforts to improve security. Microsoft products are a near-constant target of Internet attackers, and the company is often in the uncomfortable position of having to plug holes in its products.”
Vista ads before and during the holidays, “could put a drag on PC sales – which already may suffer from the operating system’s timing – because buyers may decide to wait until Jan. 30,” The Seattle Times has Jupiter Research’s Joe Wilcox saying.
But, “Microsoft still has to get the message out about Vista’s features and persuade people to upgrade, Wilcox said,” the story states, adding:
“The company and PC makers are offering free or discount coupons for Vista to people who buy PCs before the new system is available.”
