Online pedophile gets 10 years
p2pnet.net News:- An online pervert, himself a father, hacked into schoolgirls’ computers on both sides of the Atlantic, and then manipulated them into into sending him pictures of themselves, say reports.
He was caught when a 14-year-old Canadian girl told her parents who in turn contacted the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police), “sparking an international manhunt,” says Guardian Unlimited.
Adrian Ringland, 36, used a trojan to take control of victims’ computers, says The Telegraph. He’d then, “threaten to crash their systems unless they did what he ordered”.
How did Ringland get the virus into the computers in the first place? By posing as “attractive and innocent” teenaged boy named Ant Jones who’d befriend the girls in chat rooms, says the story. He’d then send them a fake picture embedded with a trojan which gave him access to their machines.
“The jobless father-of-two even boasted to one 14-year-old who threatened suicide unless he left her alone: ‘Call the cops … they won’t trace me’,” says Guardian Unlimited.
Jailed for 10 years, “Ringland’s computer expertise allowed him to move cursors around the girls’ screens; text would appear, their printers would go into action, and their CD-rom trays would fly open and snap shut,” says the story, continuing:
“He even forwarded naked photographs of them to their email buddies – all from the safe anonymity of a special study room in his own home. One girl said it was like a scene from the film The Matrix when Ringland blanked out her screen.”
Ringland was arrested on August 28, 2003, but denied being behind the abuse, “claiming he had been framed by his girlfriend’s 17-year-old son,” says The Telegraph, continuing:
“He was given bail but banned from having computer equipment. However two years later he was re-arrested when he was discovered in bed with a 14-year-old girl he had groomed.
“Thirteen charges concerning a number of 15-year-old girls, on both sides of the Atlantic, were ordered to remain on file. Ringland also admitted six charges of unlawful intercourse and one of internet grooming.”
