Robert Fripp’s Vista vista
p2pnet.net News:- There’s a general view that Bill Gates isn’t merely a money-hungry pigopolist: rather, he’s the money-hungry pigopolist.
But is he being wronged? Is he in fact a man whose impeccable tastes are deeply hidden beneath a veneer of venality?
King Crimson is/was surely one of the greatest, most innovative bands ever. (Is/was? Robert Fripp, one of its founders, is said to have said, “King Crimson exists when King Crimson needs to exist.”)
Among other members is Brian Eno, the sound modeller who created the soundscape for Windows 95. Then, at the beginning of the year, Fripp himself was a guest of Bill and the Boyz at Microsoft’s Redmond enclave where he was working on the intro for Windows Vista.
Now it’s done, Vista is nigh and, “Of course, this isn’t just any four-second clip,” says the Associated Press. “It’s the sound - a soft da-dum, da-dumm, with a lush fadeout - that millions of computer users will hear every day when they turn on computers running Microsoft’s Windows Vista operating system that is slated to debut in late January.”
But back to whether or not Gates has great taste or is merely doing a Steve Jobs whose music front man is Bobo (oops, Bono) it wasn’t, in fact, Gates who recruited Fripp: it was Microsoft group project manager Steve Ball.
And back to KC, as a p2pnet reader commented on the news that Fripp was doing Vista:
I have collected about every album king ever crimson made.
The best king crimson era was from 1972 to 1974 when john wetton was the bass player and bill bruford was the drummer and david cross played on violin and the mellotron.
They released a simply awesome boxset called ” the great deceiver ” that covered the 1972 - 1974 lineup.
A lot of people don’t know when they started out in 1969 or 1970 the band featured greg lake on bass who later went on to form emerson lake and palmer.
The original lineup included ian macdonald micheal giles and peter sinfield.
King crimson went into dormancy in 1974 and later resurfaced in 1980 or 1981 to feature tony levine on bass and adrian belew on guitar.
The band also released a 4 cd boxset the band called the projects in the late ninties and needless to say the music was definitely different.
At times robert fripp’s guitar sucked at times and at other times the man was a FUCKING GENIUS.
The only big fm hit king crimson ever had was a cut of the larks tongues in aspic album called “easy money”.
They are one of the few survivors from the golden age of progressive rock and roll besides yes.
Lord only knows yes has come out with a lot of crappy and poopy albums and should hang it up.
Oh by the way steve hackett of genesis and allan holdsworth of UK and rick wakeman and steve howe of yes were simply FUCKING AWESOME.
It’s too bad music like that does not sell anymore.
That kind of music actually required some THOUGHT in playing it
I MUST BE GETTING OLD……………
BECAUSE A LOT OF YOUNG PEOPLE TODAY DON’T KNOW WHAT GOOD MUSIC IS.
By the way i am a big fan of led zeppelin black sabbath deep purple free the cream jimi hendrix eric clapton jeff beck jethro tull and the list goes on and on………………..
Meanwhile, Fripp has to be an improvement over Bono.

Uh, this ‘pigopolist’ is donating over one half-billion dollars to his own and other charities.

If Satan himself donated 4 billion dollars to the “Save the Children”
fund, would he no longer be Satan ?
How much of the “Donation” is Tax Deductible ?
What Law/Policymakers control the “charities” he donates to ?
I guess if you give enough away, you can be above the law.

did you stop to think that music is good music to some and not others.
some rednecks love country music, and in their mind it might be the best in the world but i hate it.
most people’s music preference directly correlates to the music they grew up listening too.
i bet, that if you grew up 30 years prior, you would have no preference to that music.
but fuck young people they just listen to rap and other crap.. they must be stupid

Hey! Interesting insight into s Vista vista. I have often thought about this myself. I think listen to rap music is somewhat related. On Sunday I have the day off, so will look more into it.
