Pssssst. Wanna buy a PS3?
p2pnet.net News:- PlayStation 3 consoles were available online virtually as soon as they were officially launched in Japan, but at a staggering increase in cost, p2pnet reported on Saturday.
Today, a PS3 with a 60-gig hard drive which would have cost about $500 (£270) in Japanese stores, was on sale on eBay for an asking price of $2,300 (£1,200), says the BBC.
“Other PS3s were attracting bids starting from $600 (£313) up to $1,475 (£771).”
Inflation is a wonderful thing. The most expensive we were able to find on the weekend was a mere $2,025 ;p
Meanwhile, eager Japanese gamers were apparently hiring homeless people to stand in queues, says the Beeb, going on that Dirk Benedict contacted the site about the launch day at flagship Tokyo store, Bic Camera.
“The first buyers of PS3 were largely elderly Chinese men and young Chinese women with shaky Japanese language skills,” he wrote, says the story.
“Opportunistic Japanese businessmen have the largest presence, hiring poor Chinese men and women to wait in line for a PS3.”
There were hundreds, if not thousands, of PS3s going on eBay when we went for a look at 11:00 am Pacific, proving there’s a lot more than one born every minute.
