Heymovie.com bites the dust

p2pnet.net News:- Acting as movie industry copyright cops, police in Taiwan have shut down Heymovie.com and, possibly, ezPeer.

“Officers from Taiwan’s Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB), with support from the Foundation for the Protection of Film and Video Works (FVWP), representing the Motion Picture Association (MPA), raided four premises, including an Internet service provider (ISP), linked to the ezPeer and www.heymovie.com websites,” boasts the faux Hollywood police unit.

It also said he homes of seven people “suspected of downloading pirate movies via the websites” were violated.

The raid “failed to nab” ezPeer, a site the MPA, “has been after for years,” says PC Advisor.

“The company declined to comment on what action police took in their visit to its offices, but spokesman Robin Chen said its music file sharing software service remains open,” says the story. “A quick tour of the Ezpeer site revealed users could still download its filesharing software.”

However, the site appeared to be down at 7:58 am Pacific.

ezPeer, “started working with the music industry to gain legal rights to operate its service, and successfully signed on a number of companies, Chen said, according to PC Advisor, adding:

“The company’s website lists a host of signatories, including BMG, Universal, Warner Taiwan and Sony. Ezpeer currently charges users NT$149 (£2.40) per month to use its service, and shares 52 percent of revenues with rights holders, Chen said.”

In July last year, in Taiwan’s first ruling on file-sharing cases, a court found that Weber Wu, president of Ezpeer, hadn’t engaged in, “reproducing or publicly distributing works of copyright holders,” said the Taipei Times.
