RIAA site down (official ; )
p2pnet.net News:- The RIAA, Big Music’s US enforcement organ, has been down for for quite a while, but no one knew why
Now, however, the story can be told.
It was The Undead.
Or maybe Rob Zombie.
No one really knows for sure.
“The Web site for the recording industry’s anti-piracy lobby has been inaccessible for several days, possibly the victim of a computer virus specifically targeting the site,” states the Associated Press here in an item catchily slugged Recording industry Web site downed, possibly by zombies.
“We are working on getting it back online,” RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) spokesman Jonathan Lamy is quoted as saying, “declining to elaborate”.
The site “has been attacked several times since July 2002,” says AP, although ‘numerous’ might be more accurate than ’several’.
Owned by the Big Five record labels, the site is the frequent target of hacker attacks from Websters who’ve become disenchanted by the music industry’s continuing, and futile, victimization of file sharers, among many other things.
Suitably spun, “As the trade organization for the major recording label, the RIAA has been at the forefront of efforts to stop file-sharing programs,” adds AP.

From the newswire article:
“It’s not clear whether the virus actually caused an Internet traffic jam that shut down the site, or if the RIAA opted to take the site down in anticipation of the virus’ activation.”
Reverse DNS is gone. The PTR records are gone. Verizon has reassigned the address to an unterminated blackhole.
It’s clear the site was removed. Why it was removed is not clear.
