Ted Stevens at digital showcase

p2pnet.net News:- “Top digital entertainment companies demonstrated innovative services that are revolutionizing the entertainment industry and creating new opportunities for artists,” says a bloated PR puff piece.

It’s talking about the 2006 Digital Entertainment Expo on Capitol Hill, hosted by senator Ted Stevens and sponsored by the Digital Media Association (DiMA), the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) and United States Telecom Association (USTA), “to showcase the growing online entertainment industry for Members of Congress and their staff”.

Apparently, “DiMA member companies are at the cutting edge of innovation in entertainment,” and …….

But wait! Ted Stevens? The Ted Stevens? The chairman of the Commerce Committee and one of Washington’s keenest technology minds Stevens?

None other. And he no doubt set the general tone and standard for the expo.

The Net is a “series of tubes” and with, “one company now you can sign up and you can get a movie delivered to you daily by subscription, by delivery service,” he can be heard

.

“And currently it comes to your house, it gets put in the mail box when you get home and you change your order,” says Stevens. “But you pay for that. Right?

“This service is not going to go through the internet and what you do is you just go to a place on the internet and you order your movie and guess what? You can order ten of ‘em delivered to you! And the delivery charge is free. Right?”

Right, Ted.

“We want legislators and Congressional staff to experience these services and to understand the incredible potential – and challenges – of our dynamic industry,” DiMA executive director Jonathan Potter is quoted as saying.

And rightly so.
