Microsoft finally files with EU
p2pnet.net News:- European Union anti-trust chief Neelie Kroes gave Bill and the Boyz until Thanksgiving to deliver long-delayed documentation on their Windows O/S, as they were ordered to do two years ago after the European Commission ruled Microsoft had abused its dominant position in the market.
Now, the company has at last submitted a revised version of the technical documentation, reports Reuters, going on that the Commission had already fined Microsoft 280.5 million euros ($361 million), as well as close to 500 million euros in 2004, “for its initial violation”.
However, for that price, Microsoft bought another two years in its European monopoly and as Reuters says, “some of the major commercial businesses which needed the documents have exited the market”.
Meanwhile, Microsoft is trying to spin situation as a positive event, calling the submission of documents a “milestone”.
“We will continue to work closely with the Commission and the (independent) Trustee to ensure that we are in full compliance with every aspect of the Commission’s decision,” Reuters has it saying, adding:
“Microsoft appealed against the 2004 decision at Europe’s second-highest court and is awaiting judgment.”
