p2pnet – snowed in

p2pnet.net News:- Hi all;

Greetings from Vancouver Island off mainland British Columbia in Canada, p2pnet’s base.

In the middle of the month, we were almost flooded out. Now we’re definitely snowed in.

“With a new storm approaching on Sunday, eyes are on the skies in British Columbia, where a storm knocked out power Wednesday to 210,000 homes and ended with a massive boil-water advisory,” said the CBC on November 17. “The incoming storm isn’t predicted to be as strong as the one that paralyzed B.C.’s Lower Mainland earlier in the week, but the power still isn’t back on everywhere after the first storm.”

p2pnet was having trouble staying online because of this storm. It caused major power-outs and serious flooding and we spent several hours in torrential rain shovelling an emergency storm channel to direct water away from our house which is, fortunately, on a slope. Other people weren’t so lucky.

Anyhow, now it’s an unprecedented snow storm.

“British Columbia’s south coast was hit by a huge dump of snow over the weekend, with between 20 and 50 centimetres of accumulation being recorded near Vancouver, the Fraser Valley, and parts of Vancouver Island,” says CityNews.

We were without electricity for almost 24 hours over the weekend and now we’re on drastically reduced power, barely enough to say there is power: there’s certainly not enough to heat a stove or run a cable modem, if indeed the cable is still up in my village.

So we drove to Duncan, which still has normal power supplies, and I’m writing this from a friend’s house. Obviously, I have no idea how long reduced power conditions will last so p2pnet will be down until whenever. But that won’t be long, I hope : )

I’ll catch up with emails and will running stories again as soon as I can. And I took some snow and flood photographs for a totally of-the-topic post when things are back to normal.

For now, if anything happens, or has happened, you think people should know about, please just leave a url (and maybe a headline) as a comment post.

Cheers! And thanks. And all the best …
Jon

    See you later, BC. I am from SK. It’s snowing here today and travel would be harsh right now. So far the last warm day was last Wednesday, now we have the big chill -30 with the wind chill. I hope you will get your power back soon.

    To those who might think that I might be exaggerating when I describe the RIAA’s litigation campaign as a “reign of terror” (http://www.defectivebydesign.org/node/404),
    how’s this one: in UMG v. Lindor (http://info.riaalawsuits.us/documents.htm#UMG_v_Lindor),
    the RIAA not only subpoenaed the computer of Ms. Lindor’s son, who lives 4 miles away (http://p2pnet.net/story/10516),
    but had their lawyer telephone the son’s employer (http://recordingindustryvspeople.blogspot.com/2006/11/riaa-lawyer-admits-he-called-ms.html). See http://www.ilrweb.com/viewILRPDF.asp?filename=umg_lindor_061127RIAAtoMagisResponsetoAltman, page 2, footnote 1. You can’t make this stuff up.
