Wal-Mart’s video downloads

p2pnet.net News:- The momentum is building. Hollywood smells blood in the water - sorry, money - as various elements circle to find even more ways to sell you old movies at rip-off prices.

Warner and Wal-Mart are the latest two companies to decide there are probably enough suckers out there to make online movies worthwhile, but they’ve come up with an interesting new marketing twist.

Superman Returns, returns as Wal-Mart bundles the DVDs with a coupon allowing punters to download it from Wal-Mart’s web site, says Variety.

For two bucks, buyers can get Superman Returns for portable devices, $3 will snag a PC version, or $4 will get a download for both.

Of course, people also have to spend almost $15 to get the DVD in the first place. And the ‘deal’ applies only to Americans.

Meanwhile, “Wal-Mart’s entry into video downloading pits it against Amazon’s Unbox service and Apple’s iTunes Music Store, which already competes with the retailer in online music sales,” observes The Seattle Post-Intelligencer. “The market will expand further next year, when video-rental companies NetFlix Inc. and Blockbuster Inc. may start their own services.”

    Or both! OMG Or both!

See, that right there is fucked up, that is an implicit line admiting “we, the **AA cartel expect you to pay twice (more is welcome) for the same content.

But what is the savvy computer guy supossed to do, get the DVD and rip to any format you want, xvid or whatever, make it compatible with any device you want, PSP (homebrew) or whatever, to any resolution and sound quality you want.

Mother fucking greedy assholes piss me off.

They target to the wrong audience. Why download from Wal-Mart? But with iTunes…oh my God! iTunes if freaking awesome! You get to download via software rather than a browser.

Although, even with iTunes, I am not impressed with the prices. If the prices were only $3 w/o buying the disc, I’m down for it.
