Dear p2pnet: Suha Arafat

p2pnet.net News:- Every day brings forth a new patch of 419 scam-mails and some of them are pretty creative, to say the least.

They’re from princes, kings, the husbands and wives of ousted leaders, heirs to fortunes. You name it. But they all have one thing in common: they want you to ‘help’ them free licit and illicit wealth, for which you’re guaranteed mind-boggling recompense —– once you’ve parted with some of your own cash to expedite things, of course.

In March this year, three suspects were under arrest Amsterdam awaiting extradition to the US while a fourth man was on the run.

The scams more often than not originate in Nigeria whose Festac Town, once the, “model estate in the country and built in preparation for the Second World Black Festival of Arts and Culture in 1977,” is now a place where an, “entire community of scammers overnights on the Internet” and who, “flaunt their smart clothes and cars and hang around the Internet cafes, trading stories about successful cons and near misses, and hatching new plots.”

One of them involved no less a personage than Suha Arafat, wife of the deceased Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, who’s supposed to have stashed billions of dollars away in foreign countries.

She was popular in 2005, says Wikipedia, but it seems the 419 crooks have decided it’s Suha time again for their advance fee email fraud scams.

Offering a “golden opportunity that comes once in life time,” a 2006 scammer kicks off with, “Jon, PLEASE COULD YOU BE OF HELP?, and goes on:

This mail may not be surprising to you if you have been following current events in the international media with reference to the Middle East and Palestine in particular.

I am Mr´s. SUHA ARAFAT, the wife of YASSER ARAFAT, the Palestinian leader who died in Paris.Since his death and even prior to the announcement, I have been thrown into a state of antagonism, confusion, humiliation, frustration and hopelessness by the present leadership of the Palestinian Liberation Organization and the new Prime Minister. I have even been subjected to physical and psychological torture. As a widow that is so traumatized, I have lost confidence with everybody in the country at the moment

You must have heard over the media reports and the Internet on the discovery of some fund in my husband secret bank account and companies and the allegations of some huge sums of money deposited by my husband in my name of which I have refuses to disclose or give up to the corrupt Palestine Government. In fact the total sum allegedly discovered by the Government so far is in the tune of about $6.5 Billion Dollars. And they are not relenting on their effort to make me poor for life. As you know, the Moslem community has no regards for women, hence my desire for a foreign assistance. You can visit the BBC news broadcast below for better understanding of what I am talking about

I have deposited the sum of 20 million dollars with a security firm abroad whose name is withheld for now until we open communication. I shall be grateful if you could receive this fund into your bank account for safe keeping and any Investment opportunity. This arrangement is known to you and my personal Attorney. He might be dealing with you directly for security reasons as the case may be.

In view of the above, if you are willing to assist for our mutual benefits, we will have to negotiate on your Percentage share of the $20,000,000 that will be kept in your position for a while and invested in your name for my trust pending when my Daughter, Zahwa, will come off age and take full responsibility of her Family Estate/inheritance.

Please note that this is a golden opportunity that comes once in life time.

In case you don’t accept please do not let me out to the security and international media as I am giving you this information in total trust and confidence I will greatly appreciate if you accept my proposal in good faith. You are to contact me on this email address suha200suha@yahoo.fr

and send me your full names and your contact telephone numbers, cell number for my attorney to contact your for us to proceed immediately. Please expedite action is needed.

  1. Reader's Write Says:

Since this scam spam comes from suha200suha@yahoo.fr , the best thing to do is send an abuse complaint to abuse@yahoo.fr containing the text of the email. By shutting down this email address, you will disrupt communications with potential suckers for this scam. Not only that, you will cause the spammer to lose any monetary gain from this spam run. It is important to forward this message to the abuse department as soon as you receive it. I have done this with 419 spams, and as a result, I no longer receive 419 spam. However I continue to receive hundreds of other types of spam each day.

Here’s a template that we use – tick the relevant points and you are done. Feel free to adapt.

    Dear <xxxx>,

Thank you for your appealing offer. I have carefully considered your message – and unfortunately for both of us, have to reject it as “Nigerian Scam” or “419 scam”, for the following reason(s):

[ ] Your message, in fact, traces to an American/European network
[ ] Your timezone does not match the region you claim to be writing from
[ ] A “private” reply address is offered, suggestive of mass-mailing
[ ] A vague formula “Your country” is used – just for the case, it is RUSSIA
    [ ] Spelling/grammar are too poor for a multi-million dollar proposal
    [ ] The telephone/fax numbers are fake
[ ] Fictitious persons and/or businesses are mentioned
[ ] The person referenced is not a national of our country (Russia, that is)
[ ] The one who you say to have died is alive and well (surprise!)
[ ] I have read the same story before – be more creative to succeed
[ ] YOU TYPE IN UPPERCASE. This is simply annoying.
[ ] You are a moron (overall rating)
    [ ] Other: ________________

Your proposal will be accepted as soon as you correct all of “X”-marked points above and re-send your mail. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused to you.

“We Boycott Nigerian Scam” (since 2001).

    Sincerely,
    <yyyyyyy zzzzzzz>

  3. Reader's Write Says:

… for future spam because you are replying to the spammer.

    Instead, consider wasting scammer’s time.
