Britons don’t trust UK dbase
p2pnet.net News:- Most Britons don’t trust government promises not to misuse personal information and think a national ID database would contain inaccurate and unreliable information about them, says a poll.
Hundreds of thousands of people, maybe even millions, would refuse to register on a proposed database for the British government’s identity card scheme, says a YouGov survey conducted for The Daily Telegraph.
The majority of UK citizens would balk, even if it means fines or going to jail.
“Despite ministerial claims during the passage of the ID Cards Act through parliament that there was widespread public support for the multi-billion pound plan, the opinion survey shows a country split in two on the issue,” says the story.
“It also indicates growing public concern at the encroachment of the so-called ’surveillance society’, with large proportions suspicious of the Government’s intentions. While people appear to accept measures like CCTV cameras, which they believe help tackle specific problems like crime, they increasingly resent the rapid expansion of databases collecting information about everybody.”
Even if a large number if people eventually fell into line, “the potential exists for a huge popular backlash,” says The Daily Telegraph. “If just two in every 100 person [sic] over 16 refused to sign up, the Goverment would be pursuing one million people.”
It’s, “the first major test of opinion since Tony Blair sought to revive public interest in the ID scheme last month,” the story says, going on:
“Writing in The Daily Telegraph, he said: ‘We can’t ignore the advances in biometric technology in a world in which protection and proof of identity are more important than ever. . . it will enable us to cut delays, improve access and make secure a whole array of services by giving certainty in asserting our identity and simplicity in verifying it.’
“However, the YouGov poll shows that many people, aware of the Government’s poor record on IT, do not believe this.”

“…a world in which protection and proof of identity are more important than ever…”
Protection of who, or what?

Your title is wrong.
dbase is a database language or database format not an abbreviation for database….

I can’t see why the issues are so distorted.
I mean I feel the U S government is one big lie, I always thoughtBritan was of a more democratic position.
ID cards are a way to steal money from fees, and fines, and also a persons freedom.
Hittler did the exact same thing when rounding up the Jews.
He autorized marshal law of sorts, and allowed the SS to enter any home they suspected were hidding Jews.
With the use of these cards, they have the same ability to track a persons life. So the ‘if you have nothing to hide, you have bothing to fear’ Is about as valid now, as it was in Germany then.
Everyone looks at old pics of 9/11 or even WW 2, which show the old ‘let us never forget’ crap. Yet the civillized world is hasA.D.D
So to summerize the proposal, The ciitizens are to giveup some rights, and be a major target of big brother, all to rid the threat of terror in a country that already believes they are free, and with the word of a government that promises to end the terror, yet hasn’t activley looked for the laughable Bin Ladden, yet has managed to secure the rights to oil, and of resource production in Iraq. Where I might add found Hussien in record time with tips from the same people seen fighting the U S army in the streets?
Dont worry though, we are next! As soon as Harper quits hidding from any issues, other then condeming gays to hell. and riding the legal use of Marijuana, without consulting anyone, but his pastor.
Then he’ll have surgery to have his lips removed from George Bush’s ass.
Blair, and Bush went into Iraq with promises of proof they had mass destructive weapons, and they wanted to usher in democracy, yet they started a civil war.
Which I may add has that land in the midst of NO structure, and no plan. Yet they managed to sign some big fat contracts in the Oil fields, and get an American supporter in the PM’s office
Who are the real terrorists, and ones we need the security from?
I’ll assure you, it’s not people from the middle east.
It’s in Ottawa, Washington DC, and London.
Harry Houdini would have applauded the magical smoke and mirror tricks pulled of by London, and Washington. Dont worry Ottawa is fast kissing up, I mean catching up.
