Nintendo has a Wii problem
p2pnet.net News:- Nintendo has a Wii problem.
It seems its remote control unit can be dangerous to your TV and other appliances.
“The Wii [pronounced 'wee'] has been pitched as a cheap alternative to pricier machines from Microsoft Corp. and Sony Corp., but some gamers complain they are facing unexpected costs after losing their grip on the console’s remote control,” says Reuters.
“I’d bet ten bucks the Sony receiver pictured here didn’t see the Wii remote coming, mostly because Sony receivers don’t have eyes,” says a post on wiihaveaproblem.com, featuring the pic on the right
“Seriously though,” it goes on, “I don’t know what part of this story I find funnier: the obvious microcosm of the Sony/Nintendo conflict – or – that the ‘receiver’ couldn’t handle the throw. Yeah I said it, I went there. Don’t tell me someone didn’t expect that. Here’s what the owner had to say: ‘I got a little too much into WiiSports Bowling. One wiimote plus a set of butter-fingers plus a weak strap equals one busted stereo display. Not a big deal, I’ll probably use it as an excuse to replace my 10+ year old, randomly malfunctioning, Sony AV Receiver’.”
Nintendo president Satoru Iwata says the company will launch an investigation, “following reports of accidents involving the Wii remote controller,” says GamesIndustry.
According to Iwata, the accidents don’t mean theres a design fault. Rather, it’s, “simply that Nintendo needs to make sure gamers understand how to use the controller safely,” says the story.
“We are investigating. Some people are getting a lot more excited than we’d expected,” he told the Foreign Correspondents Club.
And, “You have to properly attach the strap. Some people aren’t quite doing it the right way, which can lead to the Wii remote potentially flying off,” GamesIndustry has America president Reggie Fils-Aime telling MTV, says the story.
“So wipe off your hands, use the Wii properly, and don’t throw the remote.”
