Advertising pollution
p2pnet.net News view:- No one has a problem with reasonable online advertising. Well, not too many people, anyway. But what most of us do have a problem with is: pop-ups, in-your-face ads that throw themselves over something you’re trying to read, demanding you click the x to take them down; ads that move around over the body copy; blurb that insists you ‘click her’e before you’re allowed to move on to the item you thought you were going to see. That sort of thing.
Avoiding online advertising a non-stop battle and it’s getting worse with Google, Microsoft and Yahoo, et al, constantly dreaming up even more ways to cram their advertising down our throats —– whether we like it or not.
“… sentiment remains negative overall, and more consumers have put their dissatisfaction into action by taking steps to block ads,” says the online advertisement for a Forrester report.
It’s slugged Consumers Love To Hate Advertising with Clutter, Interruption, And Irrelevance Spur Ad Avoidance as a sub-head.
Actually, we don’t “love” to hate it. We merely hate it.
“Consumers cite clutter, interruption, and irrelevance as the key reasons for their frustration. It’s high time for marketers to improve ROI by launching technology-supported campaigns that will improve targeting and reduce spending waste.”
In other words, it’s a given that we’ll continue to be barraged with increasing amounts of e-garbage while advertisers work to refine their methods of delivery so we can’t avoid it.
