HP ‘privacy and piracy’ fund
p2pnet.net News:- California attorney general Bill Lockyer says he’s settled with Hewlett-Packard over the spying scandal to the tune of $14.5 million .
And the vast bulk of the money, $13.5 million, will go towards creating a “privacy and piracy” treasure chest, “to help state and local law enforcement fight privacy and intellectual property violations,” says The Washington Post.
“I think they deserve some credit for not stonewalling,” Mercury News quotes Lockyer as saying.
“Fortunately HP is not Enron.”
The entertainment and software cartels will be delighted.
What’s left over will go to damages and to pay for the investigation.
Lockyer is also thinking about reaching an agreement with ex-HP boss Patricia Dunn, says the Post.
The California AG has been talking to Dunn’s attorney, James Brosnahan, “about a potential settlement,” says the story, which also has Lockyer saying, “I’m sympathetic to her health problems,” but there was, “nothing yet that would indicate that settlements are likely.”
Debbie Lammers, Dunn’s sister, recently started a blog for Dunn, who for the moment remains under identity theft and other felony charges.
