Swedes like p2p file sharing
p2pnet.net News:- One in five of online Swedes have used a p2p file sharing program, says a new report.
“Downloading music, games and films for free online is most popular among men aged 16-34,” says The Local, quoting Statistics Sweden.
The survey looked at the online habits of Swedes during the first quarter of 2006 and the most common reasons to log on were to check email and to search for information and services, says the story, going on:
“The Internet is most popular among men between the ages of 25-34. Some 55 percent of women between 16 and 74, and 67 percent of men in the same age group, use the Internet daily.”
Sweden’s government last year made it illegal to download copyrighted films, music and games without permission, adds The Local.
If your Net access is blocked by government restrictions, try Psiphon from the Citizen Lab at the University of Toronto’s Munk Centre for International Studies. And if you’re Chinese and you’re looking for a way to access independent Internet news sources, try Freegate, the DIT program written to help Chinese citizens circumvent web site blocking outside of China. So basically the new law means a fifth of the Swedish online population are criminals? I don’t think so. They’re normal people just like you, me and everybody else. It’s not the people that should adopt to greedy big corporations’ (I don’t mean like “sticking it to the man”, I really mean GREEDY) lobbying, but rather laws should be made to serve the people.
