When a Wii equals a PS3
p2pnet.net News:- Can it be true? People trading Sony PS3s for Nintendo Wiis?
Sphere ceo and founder Tony Conrad says it is, states GigaGames. “There are people out there trying to trade their PS3s for Nintendo Wiis and some of them are offering to take a loss,” declares James McMaster, and to check out exactly how widespread this phenomenon is, “I had to venture into the dangerous, uncharted waters of craigslist.org and start doing a little searching of my own,” he says, going on:
We decided upon looking in some of the hottest cities on craigslist: Austin, New York and San Francisco. In my search of Austin, I only turned up 6 total people who wanted to trade their PS3 for a Wii, so I moved on to New York City, which boasted a pretty substantial 18 desired trades. Here’s where it gets crazy: in San Francisco, there are 48 different PS3 for Wii trades going on at this moment. Now, keep in mind, most of these trades are requesting a Wii plus cash difference, but there is the occasional barter that will take a loss just to get their hands on the latest Nintendo console.
McMaster lays out several scenarios, but wraps them up with:
… it could just be people who got the PS3 and have been terribly disappointed in the software line-up. The only game that seems to be doing relatively well in the ratings is Resistance: Fall of Man, and that’s not really enough to carry a $500-$600 system. I would love to confirm these thoughts, but all of the people I’ve tried to contact to ask why they’re selling their systems either declined to comment or didn’t have time.

I know why, the Ps3 sucks.

One of the home theater oriented forums I visit has a section just for scalpers of PS3 and Wii consoles. I’ve seen for myself posts from people who are trying to get rid of their PS3’s in order to get a Wii.
I wouldn’t say the Playstation 3 sucks, but that is just my opinion. For those with a high-def home theater setup, it’s actually a relatively inexpensive choice for being a Blu-Ray player. Dedicated Blu-Ray players cost much more and it’s hard to commit to one of those with the format war going on as it is. The bonus here is that if Blu-Ray does lose the format war, at least you’re still left with a decent gaming machine. I have an Xbox 360, and so went with the HD-DVD accessory. It just seemed like a no-brainer to me.
For those that are solely interested in gaming, well then I completely agree that the Wii is a far better pick. If it could only output HD formats I’d have likely bought one too. Still might just so I can play Zelda lol.
Anyways, the Wii really is a great deal from a monetary standpoint. It’s focus is primarily on the fun factor rather than features and abilities, and I really have to tip my hat to Nintendo for doing this. It was a risky venture to do so, going against the grain as they have, and clearly paid off for them.

Welcome to 2009. Now there are tons of people trading Wiis for PS3s, Xbox360, PS2s at a loss. What a turn around. Turns out the lineup of games for the Wii is so abysmal that it completely overwhelms whatever advantage the console offers.
