Cisco iPhone vs Apple iPhone

p2pnet.net News:- Apple Inc, Apple Computers that was, has another lawsuit on its hands.

Apple boss Steve Jobs used the MacWorld Conference and Expo in San Francisco to announce his iPhone to a fawning world.

But he shouldn’t have, says Cisco, the legal owner of the iPhone trademark.

The two companies were in negotiations and, “Given Apple’s numerous requests for permission to use Cisco’s iPhone trademark over the past several years and our extensive discussions with them recently, it is our belief that with their announcement [at the Expo] today, Apple intends to agree to the final document and public statement that were distributed to them last night and that addressed a few remaining items,” said Cisco in a brief statement, adding:

“We expect to receive a signed agreement today.”

But that didn’t happen, says Cisco, which acquired the iPhone trademark in 2000 after buying the previous owner, Infogear.

“Infogear’s original filing for the trademark dates to March 20, 1996,” states Cisco, going on, “Linksys, a division of Cisco, has been shipping a new family of iPhone products since early last year. On Dec. 18, Linksys expanded the iPhone family with additional products.”

Meanwhile, among other things, Apple is also being sued by Shuffle clone maker Luxpro, and by Melanie Tucker, a disenchanted iPod user who says Apple violates anti-trust laws by refusing to allow music bought in its iTunes store to be played on any digital music player besides the iPod.

Apple and Cisco deserve each other. Apple cares about using the word ‘pod’ and Cisco cares about using the name iPhone
