Apple says Cisco iPod suit is ’silly’
p2pnet.net News:- Steve Jobs’ arrogant use of a trade named owned by another company could mire Apple in a long, dangerous and expensive lawsuit.
Apple spokeswoman Natalie Kerris says Cisco’s claim to the iPhone name is “silly,” and, “Apple senior vice president Phil Schiller said other companies have tried to use the name for VoIP phones – but only Apple’s iPhone is a cellular phone,” says Associated Press.
Cisco owns the trademark and has done so since 2000. It says Apple violated it when Steve Jobs’ went ahead and splashed the Apple mobile phone at the Macfest without getting permission to use it.
Now, “attorneys are curious about what defense Apple may offer, noting that the high-profile case could become the most closely watched naming skirmish since 1989, when Mead Data Central Inc. – owner of the Lexis legal database – sued Toyota Motor Corp. over its Lexus luxury brand,” says AP.
Cisco wants Apple to pay Cisco’s legal fees, “and relinquish all profits eventually made on the iPhone,” says AP. It, “also demands Apple destroy all labels, signs, packaging and other promotional material that includes the word ‘iPone’.”

And after two years of such things, Apple has the nerve to say Cisco’s claim is “silly”.
They only copied the whole name for this products, where other people used the word “Pod” or “i” as a part of their names..
So suing someone for infringing on a trademark is “silly”, yet suing people over a word in the dictionary is not?
Wow Apple, you just made my day.

Just what I was going to say. There’s nothing like the sweet, sweet taste of karma.
