Apple Boot Camp – $30?
p2pnet.net News:- Remember Boot Camp?
It’s an Apple app, “A dollar short and a day late,” p2pnet posted when the company upgraded it.
It’s designed to allow (and that’s the correct word) people to install and run Windows XP on Intel-based Macs.
The trouble was, “the independent community had already done the same thing,” we went on, ” And long before.”
Now, with news that Steve Jobs wants to rip off his loyal and devoted customers $2 for something they shouldn’t have to pay for, it seems he also wants to stick them for $30 for Boot Camp, which at the moment is free.
“According to a report MacScoop has obtained, Apple will charge current users of Mac OS X Tiger for the final version of Boot Camp that will be released at the same time as Mac OS X Leopard, this Spring,” says MacScoop, going on:
“Though the source wasn’t sure about the final pricing, the report said there is strong possibility that Apple’s boot manager software, allowing to use Windows and Mac OS X in dual boot mode will be sold for $29 to Tiger users. Boot Camp will be one of the features included in Leopard, which means that Tiger users who want to use Boot Camp will also have the option to upgrade to Leopard instead of paying for the final version of Apple’s Windows dual boot solution.”
How does that saying go, the one about never giving a sucker an even break?
“Apple is also expected to officially support Microsoft’s Windows Vista operating system with the final version of Boot Camp,” adds the story.
Meanwhile, the untrammeled Bootloader, the app which beat Apple to the punch, is still available, and still free. And don’t forget the Linux version.
