“But Apple, which has sold more than 2million iPods, refused to change the colour of its distinctive ‘earbuds’ – saying customers would prefer to be robbed than wear something less trendy.
“One iPod victim said a mugger spotted him wearing the earpiece, pulled a knife out and yelled: ‘Well hand it over then.’
“He must have known I was wearing an iPod because of the white headphones.”
Harrowing tales of street muggings are being exchanged on websites by iPod users, says the story, adding that police now recommend that owners use less stylish colour headphones to disguise that they’re carrying “a valuable piece of technology”.
Saqib Sabir was mugged for his iPod on his way home from work, says an earlier This is London report here.
“I was walking down the road near to my home when two men jumped me,” he’s quoted as saying. “They pulled a knife and told me to hand over my phone.
“Then one of them spotted my iPod. They obviously knew what it was, because they immediately threw my phone away to take it. I was gutted, I use my iPod all the time, and I’d only had it a few weeks.”
