Steve Jobs meets DoJ, SEC

p2pnet.net News:- Apple Inc is currently the target in criminal and civil investigations following fraudulent document charges and, “Flanked by lawyers,” Apple boss Steve ‘iRule’ Jobs was subjected to questioning by Justice Department and Securities and Exchange Commission personnel, says The San Francisco Chronicle.

“No one would reveal the specifics of what Jobs was asked or said last Tuesday, citing the confidentiality of the interview, but SEC officials took the lead in the questioning, according to a source familiar with the matter,” says the story.

Apple spokesman Steve Dowling and Jobs’ lawyer Mark Pomerantz were incommunicado.

“Jobs’ possible involvement in stock-option manipulation has sensationalized the widening corporate scandal that has spread to more than 200 companies,” says the story, going on:

“At issue in Apple’s case is the granting of 7.5 million options to Jobs in 2001 that was backdated by two months. Company records were falsified to create the impression the options were approved at a board meeting that never occurred, Apple has confirmed.”

Wendy Howell who, it’s said, filled out the paperwork on a 2001 option award to Jobs, is no longer with the firm. And former Apple general counsel Nancy Heinen left the company in May, continues The San Francisco Chronicle.

Interestingly, Chris Steskal, “the federal prosecutor who has led the investigation of Apple to date,” is soon to head Fenwick & West’s white-collar practice.

Apple is a Fenwick client, and Heinen’s husband, Dennis DeBroeck, is a partner there.

“Steskal was one of the prosecutors who questioned Jobs on Tuesday, according to people familiar with the matter,” adds the story.

Meanwhile, it’ll be interesting to see how quickly the mainstream media reverse their idolatry of Jobs if ever he’s proved to be more than merely a bystander.
