p2pnet.net News:- Following news that it’s thinking about dumping DRM (Digital Restrictions Management) Big 4 Organized Music cartel member EMI says it’s merging its Capitol and Virgin labels in the US to form one company, the Capitol Music Group.

It’s all part of a desperate bid to stay relevant and it kicked off with a reorganization which included the sudden “departure” of various EMI leaders and a warning to investors that, “full-year sales will be far below expectations,” as The Canadian Press puts it.

Jason Flom, ex-Virgin Records America ceo, will be the new Capitol Music Group’s boss. And it seems Flom will soon be joining the blogging community.

Meanwhile, Andrew Slater, president and ceo of Capitol Records in the US since 2001, “has stepped down from his post,” says CP, adding, “Analysts have said EMI’s woes were a mixture of its own mistakes, some bad luck with its releases and the twin digital challenges of piracy and legitimate downloading.”

This is, of course, nonsense. EMI’s woes are, like those if its fellow cartel members, Vivendi Universal (France), Sony BMG (Japan and Germany) and Warner Music (US) entirely of its own making and can be generally summed up under the headings Bad Management and Bad Product.

The Big 4 have steadfastedly refused to accept the fact they’re now in the 21st digital centruy, dealing with well-informed customers who accurately inform each other of events faster than the labels can spin them in the lamescream media, with al that implies.
