Apple’s Bad Vista warning
p2pnet.net News:- Oh DEAR !!! That Steve Jobs is on poor Microsoft’s case again!
Apple is running snyde anti-Microsoft ads in the hope they’ll persuade people to look to you know who instead of you know who.
This time, Jobs is warning Apple lovers not to ‘upgrade’ to Vista because iTunes music software may not work too well with it.
iTunes is the user-funded front-end loader for iPod, Apple’s digital music player, and the company delightedly points out that “currently known compatibility issues with iTunes 7.0.2 and earlier versions” include:
- iTunes Store purchases may not play when upgrading to Windows Vista from Windows 2000 or XP.
- iPod models with the “Enable Disk Use” option turned off may be unable to update or restore iPod software, and make changes to iPod settings.
- iPod models configured to Auto Sync and have the “Enable Disk Use” option turned off may require being ejected and reconnected to resync.
- Ejecting an iPod from the Windows System Tray using the “Safely Remove Hardware” feature may corrupt your iPod. To always safely eject an iPod, choose Eject iPod from the Controls menu within iTunes.
- Cover Flow animation may be slower than expected.
- Contacts and calendars will not sync with iPod.
Apple fails to explain why, given the months (years?) of advance notice it’s had to get iTunes geared up to work with Vista, it hadn’t bothered to do so.
Nonetheless and notwithstanding, “Customers who have upgraded to Windows Vista and are still experiencing issues playing iTunes Store purchases should download and run the iTunes Repair Tool for Vista after re-installing iTunes 7.0.2,” says Apple.
Apple and Apple
Meanwhile, although Steve & Co may be at odds with Bill and the Boyz, things now see to be cool between Apple Inc and the Apple, the original, that is.
Apple and The Beatles’ Apple Corps have, “entered into a new agreement concerning the use of the name ‘Apple’ and apple logos which replaces their 1991 Agreement,” says Apple, going on:
“Under the new agreement, which replaces a pact from 1991, Apple will own all of the trademarks related to ‘Apple’ and will license certain of those trademarks back to Apple Corps for their continued use. In addition, the ongoing trademark lawsuit between the companies will end, with each party bearing its own legal costs, and Apple continuing to use its name and logos on iTunes.”
“We love the Beatles, and it has been painful being at odds with them over these trademarks,” gushes Jobs fulsomely.
“It feels great to resolve this in a positive manner, and in a way that should remove the potential of further disagreements in the future.”
[Thinks: Wonder how long it'll be before there'll be Beatles songs on iTunes, not to mention a The Beatles iPod? And won't that make U2 jealous. heh]
