Vlogger Josh Wolf sets US record

p2pnet.net News:- Josh Wolfe, imprisoned after refusing to give US authorities raw video from a 2005 of a meeting of Group of 8 leaders in Scotland, has achieved an American record, one he’d rather be without.

On Tuesday, he became the journalist with the longest jail time for contempt in US history, says a Free Josh Wolf Coalition statetment.

Wolf, one of three reporters named Journalists of the Year by the Society of Professional Journalists, has been inside since August, apart from a brief outing in September related to his appeal.

In his acceptance speech, “I’m sorry I wasn’t able to make it tonight to accept this award,” he said. “But I just couldn’t leave my live-work loft. I’m sure the food there tonight will blow the roof of whatever I will be eating here.”

He also said, “There is a war on journalism and I am a POW.”

“Prosecutors have demanded that Wolf give them his raw video, some of which he has posted on his Web site, as well as testify about the protesters seen on the tape for an investigation into possible charges, including arson,” says CNET News.

“Wolf videotaped a public demonstration where there may have been an attempt to set a police car ablaze and where a San Francisco police officer’s skull was fractured when he was hit from behind by a demonstrator,” said Luke Macaulay, a spokesman for the United States attorney for the Northern District of California.

“Macaulay cited six federal decisions in the government’s favor, including one last week that denied a request for a new hearing.”

Wolf could stay jailed until the term of the grand jury ends in July, says CNET.

Wolfe has the poem below posted on his web site.

I am an alarm clock.
I’ve been buzzing for the past few years
But it was easy enough to ignore
My gentle protest and continue to slumber

As of recently the noise has grown louder.
You’ve been hitting snooze,
But each passing day it grows harder
For you to stay at rest.

You don’t want to wake up.
The dreams are so comforting
And you know reality is a let down,
But the sound has grown penetrating

The time has come to make a choice
Either listen to the warning that is breathing in your brain
Or surrender to your weakness
And become a slave in name.

I am an alarm clock
And I am sounding the alarm
Like Paul Revere did years ago
I’m riding down the lane

Screaming,

‘Wake up!’

Stay tuned.

Slashdot Slashdot it!
