Serious Apple, Vista, problems
p2pnet.net News:- It seems Apple has come up with an entirely new, wholly original, form of DRM (Digital Restrictions Management) consumer control. And it’s aimed at Vista.
The company has been running sarcastic anti-Microsoft ads for quite a while and Steve Jobs recently warned Macalytes not to ‘upgrade’ to Vista.
iTunes music software may not work too well with it, he said, but it now turns out it’s worse than that. Far worse.
Microsoft Vista has been on the horizon not for months, but for years. So how many Apple software applications will run on it?
Not one.
iTunes, QuickTime, Airport For Windows, Bonjour For Windows, iDisk utility and AppleWorks for Windows will only work with XP or below, says a bald ‘overview‘.
And there’s no hint of when Apple plans to remedy the situation.
Stay tuned.

Who cares? Most people are starting to realize vista is crap anyway. It may take a couple of years, but I think microsoft has brought themselves a world of finiancial hurt with vista….wait till whole companies get locked out of their computers. That will be when the real fun begins in court.

Gee, it’s also been nearly two years after Jobs announced the Mac was moving to Intel, and MS (and their vaunted Mac Business Unit) still has _no idea_ when Office apps might be rewritten/recompiled for Intel Macs. Oh, and lets see… once Netscape was dead as a viable competitor to IE, MS couldn’t be bothered to continue IE for Mac. And then there’s Windows Media Player…
You know, this business of updating apps for competitors is _hard work_! Maybe if one company showed a little more…um…intensity in their efforts, the other would too.

are you kidding me? this is apple dropping the ball, likely on purpose, but its gonna backfire. i was thinking about buying an iMac when leopard comes out but this makes me think twice. its such a guerilla move. these problems should have been identified and corrected long ago. i guess apple was too busy backdating options to notice.

And how is this any different than MS dragging it’s feet with Tiger? I wanted more than two months to get a version of MS office that wouldn’t crash on Tiger. We gave up waiting on a movie player only to have MS drop the whole idea and farm it out to Flip4Mac. I mean come on, even the Microsoft business Unit has claimed they couldn’t begin to create a Office 2007 (XML) document converter for the Mac Version of Office until Vista and Office 2007 shipped and it’s their company!!!! Just sucks when the shoe is on the other foot doesn’t it.

Oh please. It amazes me the polarity of these posts. All BS. #1 Vista does NOT suck. It may have issues, what OS doesn’t, but it doesn’t suck. As for Apple doing guerilla moves that’s equally silly. Apple makes a lot of their $$$$ from iPod and iTunes users on Windows. They have more on Windows than the Mac! It’s already been reported that other players and hardware also have Vista issues some are MS based and Microsoft claims they are working to correct them. People here have no clue what it talkes to develop and maintain cross-platform applications and application frameworks. AS was pointed out here already at the deep level that Apple operates at times within the OS there are things you need to do with the final code and round of testing that can take weeks. Ugh….

All of the apps listed run on Vista.
iTunes does give *some* users problems with their iPods; that fix will be out within days.
The document you refer to shows apps for which Apple certifies compatibility.
Now that actual customers have Windows Vista, now that it’s actually shipping, Apple can certify their working apps to be compatible.
Before you choose to get so riled, read and think; there’s nothing nefarious here.

thank you for clarifying that, Apple =)

With each new OS, isn’t it traditional during the development of the new operating system to include “backward compatibility” features? For example: currently the new generation Macs are having their bouts with Adobe’s CS applications, but Apple provided “Rosetta” within Mac OSX in order for applications such as Adobe CS (ppc base) to run on the new Macs; MS Office 2004 for the Mac falls into this catogory as well. Another step Apple took to maintain compatibility is “Universal”—applications that run either on ppc or intel base macs; a valuable resource as “Universal” extends the value of the ppc based Macs.
Perhaps, Vista development thru out all its billions of coding, might have lost sight of certain basic practices and protocols. Oh well…but i’m certain the problems will be fix soon.

You’re correcvt, if you could remove the DRM, all of the DRM then VISTA might be a “NON sucking’ OS. … And in case your wondering there is a torrent out there that claims to be the way to find such a creature….. wonder where one would find such a torrent?
The author did it for the sole reason of being able to use his system they way he wanted to. To play games that require DX10 without having to put up with the overhead created by the DRM.

lol, I believe is how today’s kids say it…
This statement from the above article:
“So how many Apple software applications will run on it?
Not one.”
is patently false, and its tone is inflammatory.
I hoped only to offer reason and information.

the reality is vista is brand new and is not seasoned. there is no grand conpiracy . after all the bad press vista was presented in alpha form . there are issues . AS APPLE . however , it is a poor imitation of os x . why was apple’s introduction backward compatible to machines 3 years old?? it had to be aka mac’s tiny market share !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
microsoft is arrogant . MAKE THEM UPGRADE!! and you are their pawn. kirk to scotty . you should not be an apologist .apple and microsoft are in the business of making money. the truth lies in the pudding . VISTA again is a poor imiation of os x aka the killer app SPOTLIGHT . vista’s implentation of that is an embarrasment. even internal emails in microsoft revealed that ..google this .
in the end it’s about ease of use . apple wins . a confession , i’m a pc geek.i have no security software in os x scarry . my windows computers are hardware protected . thousands of dollars spent on protection hardware.
you are in denial . you too are upset .it’s not coming to the dark side (apple)
it’s about ease of use and not spending thousands of dollars buying into a nightmare called vista.
