Text messaging beats Mugabe

p2pnet.net news:- A radio station being hounded by Zimbabwe president Robert Mugabe says it’s found a way around having its emails read by local authorities.

SW Radio Africa founder Gerry Jackson says censors haven’t caught on to her text messaging, according to CNET News.

‘Internet service providers have to give the CIO, the secret police, access to e-mails if asked to do so,’ it has Jackson saying, referring to the Central Intelligence Organization. ‘The penalty for noncompliance is two years in jail.”

Jackson escaped from Zimbabwe, “after security forces pulled the plug on her station and now she broadcasts from outside London,” says CNET, reporting on a conference organized by the World Press Freedom Committee and the World Association of Newspapers in Paris.

Tired of being treated like a criminal? They depend on you, not the other way around. Don’t buy their ‘product’. Do bug your local politicians. Use emails, snail-mail, phone calls, faxes, IM, stop them in the street, blog. And if you’re into organizing, organize petitions, organize demonstrations and then turn up on your local political rep’s doorstep, making sure you’ve contacted your local tv/radio station/newspaper in advance. Don’t just complain. Do something!
