Sony drops Blu-ray player prices
p2pnet.net news:- If you flashed out $1,000 for Sony’s BDP-S1 Blu-ray player and you’re easily upset, maybe you’d better skip this.
Because the company’s BDP-S300 will be almost half the price of the BDP-S1 you bought and, although $400 cheaper, it’ll have the same capabilities.
On top of that, Sony’s Stan Glasgows says by Christmas, prices for Blu-ray players should be below $500, says Associated Press.
Meanwhile, “Most people buying high-definition discs are apparently doing so to play them on PlayStation 3 game consoles,” it says, quoting another Sony executive, Randy Waynick, as stating:
“There are two versions of the console, for $499 and $599, and Sony sold 1.8 million units last year” and, 80% of people who buy a PS3, “also buy Blu-ray movies to go with it”.

No surprise. One of the things that the PS2 is credited for is causing the DVD format to be widely adopted by the masses because it was, at the time, the cheapest DVD player on the market.
