AMD/ATI 690 graphics chip

p2pnet.net news:- With questions of a possible leveraged buyout in the wings, AMD has introduced the AMD 690 series chipset, its first to bring together the AMD CPU and platform technology with the ATI Radeon X1250 GPU, obviating the need for a separate graphics card and ensuring it’ll work with Vista.

The combination allows multitasking between applications with Windows Aero, the new 3D user interface built into Windows Vista Premium and Business editions, says AMD.

AMD bought Canada’s ATI late last year.

The AMD 690 series chipset will be available from Albatron Technology Co, ASUS, Biostar, ECS, ELITEGROUP COMPUTER SYSTEMS CO., EPoX Computer Company, Foxconn Technology Group, GIGABYTE United Inc, Jetway Info Co Ltd., MSI Computer Ltd, PCPartner Ltd and Sapphire.

System integrators including Atelco, Bas Group, Formoza, Multimedis, Onda, PC Box, Seethru, Systemax, Unika, Unika Multimedia and ZT Group are also n board, says AMD.

“The 690 chipset is compatible with AMD’s desktop processor line-up and offers several high-end features, including integrated DVI (digital visual interface) and HDMI (high-definition multimedia interface) outputs for high-definition video,” says PC Advisor.

“The chipset also includes hardware decoding for MPEG2, the video compression technology used with DVDs – which means less CPU power is required when playing DVDs on a computer.”

Nice chipset; too bad they don’t have a processor that can compete with the Intel Core 2 Duo at the moment.

They’ll come back as it always happens in the tech industry; first one company is on top, then the other, and so on in cyclical fashion.
