Trojan attacks p2p app Winny

p2pnet.net news:- “Taiyaki, taiyaki, oh I’d like to eat some…If you don’t bring me some, I’ll destroy your files…If you don’t stop using Winny, I’ll expose you to the police…”

That’s the message under the dewey-eyed pic from the Troj/Pirlames-A trojan horse that’s loose on on Japanese p2p file-sharing networks, posing as a screen-saver.

Winny (also known as WinNY) is a Japanese p2p file-sharing program “loosely inspired by the design principles behind the Freenet network and that also claimed to keep user identities untraceable,” says the Wikipedia.

Its creator, Isamu Kaneko, is another p2p innovator targeted by the members of the Big 4 music cartel.

“This is one of the most bizarre pieces of malware we have seen in our labs for quite some time, but it’s data-destroying payload is no laughing matter,” says Graham Cluley for Britain’s Sophos.

Other Troj/Pirlames variants have different messages such as, “Ah, I see you are using P2P again… if you don’t stop within 0.5 seconds, I’m going to kill you.”

“Programs, music files and email mailboxes are amongst the files targeted by the Trojan horse,” says Sophos. “EXE, BAT, CMD, INI, ASP, HTM, HTML, PHP, CLASS, JAVA, DBX, EML, MBX, TBB, WAB, HLP, TXT, MP3, XLS, LOG, BMP files are all overwritten by images contained inside the malicious code of comic book character Ayu Tsukimiya.”

Tired of being treated like a criminal? They depend on you, not the other way around. Don’t buy their ‘product’. Do bug your local politicians. Use emails, snail-mail, phone calls, faxes, IM, stop them in the street, blog. And if you’re into organizing, organize petitions, organize demonstrations and then turn up on your local political rep’s doorstep, making sure you’ve contacted your local tv/radio station/newspaper in advance. Don’t just complain. Do something!

Makes me glad I run Linux. But why degrade my favorite character in the anime show Kanon that has this thing for Taiyaki.
