Verizon’s live cellphone TV
p2pnet.net news:- Verizon Wireless says it’s bringing live TV to cell phone owners for $15 to $25 a month.
Lined up for delivery so far are CBS Mobile, Comedy Central, ESPN, Fox Mobile, MTV, NBC 2Go, NBC News 2Go and Nickelodeon and they’ll be broadcasting to about 20 Midwestern and Western markets, says Associated Press.
“Notably,” observes the story, “the launch came one day after a demonstration in New York of a planned rival broadcast service called Modeo, as well as an announcement by MobiTV, a forerunner to these new offerings, that it has reached 2 million users.”
Owned jointly by Verizon Communications and Vodafone Group, Verizon Wireless is offering its the shows either as a standalone product for $15 a month, or bundled for $25 a month with the company’s mobile Web access and the wide-ranging library of V Cast video clip downloads.
Cell phone video services were first launched in the US in 2004 but so far only about seven million customers out of some 232 million cell phone subscriptions, Fox News has Ovum analyst Roger Entner saying.
But higher-quality pictures could change that, he believes.
“Modeo, a unit of Crown Castle International Corp. (CCI), is also building a network dedicated to cell phone television, but it has yet to name any customers for its service, currently in trial in New York,” says the story.
Meanwhile, “The first dual-mode handset from Samsung Electronics Co. costs $200 without signing a new Verizon service contract, or $50 less with a new commitment,” says AP, addingh, “Verizon Wireless expects to introduce a second handset made by LG Electronics Co. in the coming weeks.”

Tired of being treated like a criminal? They depend on you, not the other way around. Don’t buy their ‘product’. Do bug your local politicians. Use emails, snail-mail, phone calls, faxes, IM, stop them in the street, blog. And if you’re into organizing, organize petitions, organize demonstrations and then turn up on your local political rep’s doorstep, making sure you’ve contacted your local tv/radio station/newspaper in advance. Don’t just complain. Do something!

Who wants to watch tv on a screen the size of a postage stamp at a resolution measured in only double digit pixel counts. Not to mention the number of ‘targeted ads’ you’re gonna be subjected to.
I use my mobile to make and receive calls and text messages. That’s all. Shocking i know.
