US ‘PlayStation generation’ crisis
p2pnet.net news:- There’s a “crisis” in America, and it’s caused by a “PlayStation generation” of students who want, “immediate gratification and avoid math and science because it’s too hard,” says US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) science and technology research undersecretary Jay Cohen.
Cohen, an ex-US Navy admiral, is quoted by Computerworld, which says he has a 2007 $850 million research budget for developing what he sometimes calls ‘wow’ technology.
But that was just one of the points Cohen made at an Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association conference yesterday, says the story.
His thoughts on needing students with an interest in science was, “underscored by some of the research on which the agency is now working.
“I get to take risks with millions of dollars to prevent putting billions of dollars in acquisitions at risk,” Computerworld has him saying.

Tired of being treated like a criminal? They depend on you, not the other way around. Don’t buy their ‘product’. Do bug your local politicians. Use emails, snail-mail, phone calls, faxes, IM, stop them in the street, blog. And if you’re into organizing, organize petitions, organize demonstrations and then turn up on your local political rep’s doorstep, making sure you’ve contacted your local tv/radio station/newspaper in advance. Don’t just complain. Do something!

It’s not just the US and it’s not just the playstation generation either. My dad is going on 60 and he’s at least as impatient as my 17 year old nephew. He can’t be called a member of the playstation generation by any means.
You only have to watch people pulling out of side streets and making cars on the main road slow down simply because they can’t be bothered to wait another 10 seconds to realise that Everyone is Impatient now.
I think that it’s got more to do with the pace of things these days and that everyone is working longer and longer hours. The truth is we are all working much harder than our parents ever had to when they were our age.
